DISCLAIMER: IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED POWER YET, THIS IS NOT A SPOILER. YOU ARE SIMPLY A PROCRASTINATOR AND THAT IS A PERSONAL PROBLEM.
Now that that’s out of the way…
Like 97% of the rest of y’all, I watched Power on Sunday. And a lot of ish went down. Angie has officially sold her soul to the devil that is James St. Patrick’s peen, Kanan’s third-degree burns healed faster than the immortal bruise under Ghost’s eye, Ghost almost got killed by the Jamaicans while his son was in the car, and Tommy had a legit psychotic breakdown. Right before he strangled his crazy, emotionally unstable, nymphomaniac, pregnant girlfriend Holly — to death.
Since Holly was more hated than Quinn on every season of Scandal combined, many Power fans took to social media to rejoice in the moment. But not me. I was actually lowkey pissed she got killed off the show. Here’s why:
As we all are aware, Holly was terribly needy, extremely nosey, and hella annoying. But whole time I thought it was for a legitimate reason that had yet to be revealed. The girl asked way too many questions and was trying way too hard to earn Tommy’s trust. Something about her just screamed Secret Agent Barbie to me. So I drafted up a whole entire plot twist in my head:
Holly is actually a federal agent who has been working deep undercover for years to take down Lobos and Ghost’s entire drug operation. She had done her fair share of research on both Ghost and Tommy, and purposely applied for a waitress position at Truth to get her foot in the door. She knew Tommy had a thing for redheads (which was mentioned in the first season), so she dyed her hair red and played hard to get, knowing it would get his attention. Over time, she slowly let Tommy in — emotionally and physically — until she had him wrapped around her finger. She ultimately uses this to her advantage to gather information and gain access to Ghost and Tommy’s operation. Then she gets buddy-buddy with Tasha to learn how they clean the money. And once she has all the evidence she needs, BAM! “FBI, you’re under arrest. Oh yeah, and I’m pregnant with your kid.” The end.
But that didn’t happen. Because Tommy killed her. Which means she was actually needy, nosey and annoying for no reason. Her character had no purpose. No backstory. No depth. No real meaning at all. And because of this, my time was wasted watching her on this show. And that upsets me.
