So I have a confession to make. Before I recently booked my appointment with Alicia Frazier, owner of Bare Skin Facial & Waxing Studio, I’d never had a facial or been to an esthetician before. Yep, go ahead and judge me. You have my full permission. ‘Cause there’s absolutely no excuse for why a grown-a$$, 27-year-and-11-month-old, working woman has never gotten herself a facial. NONE.
But wait! There’s more.
I never really had a consistent skincare routine either. And by that, I mean I never had one at all lol. I guess the closest thing I’ve ever had to a skin regimen was washing my face in the morning — just the morning, not at night — spraying some of that rose water stuff from Ulta on my face (so I could feel like I was doing something), and topping it all off with some good old-fashioned, pore-clogging shea butter. In my best Kevin Hart voice, I can’t make this up.
So I’m sure you can imagine how embarrassed I was to share this information with Alicia during our appointment. But she was super sweet about it and of course, very informative. During my face consultation, she told me I had some hyper-pigmentation and a bit of congestion in certain areas of my skin. She then inquired about my dairy intake. Given the fact that I looovvveeee me some cheese and sour cream, she was definitely on to something. Speaking of which, I’m actually in the middle of my no meat/no dairy (not completely vegan, but mostly) challenge for the month and will be writing up a separate post on how that’s been going.
She also asked how often I wash my makeup brushes. Sigh. Another embarrassing confession. Let’s just say it’s been a minute. I know how important it is to wash your makeup brushes. I’m just lazy — and I have the annoying little bumps on my face to show for it.
After my consultation, Alicia immediately began going to work on my skin. I received the Bare Skin Glow, a super relaxing and extremely thorough skin treatment that basically felt like I was getting a really good teeth cleaning, except on my face lol.
She started by giving me a double cleanse to remove all the gunk and buildup from my skin. Even though it was only the beginning of the treatment, I immediately noticed how much cleaner and lighter my skin felt. She proceeded to remove all the excess dead skin cells that were still floating around on my face, and it literally felt like my skin could breathe again. Then finally, she applied the steam towel and soothing masque for rebalancing my skin. This was by far my favorite part of the treatment. By the time I was finished, my skin felt — and looked — like silk. I was literally glowing.
Before I left, Alicia gave me a post-treatment kit to get me started on my home care regimen. It came complete with a cleanser, moisturizer, stem cell cream, hydrating enzyme masque and a serum for brightening the skin. I’ve been using this kit religiously ever since and notice that my skin tone is more even and brighter, and has a nice, natural glow.
Without question, I will be going back to Bare Skin (I actually need to stop playing schedule my next appointment now) and highly recommend you try out Alicia’s services because this sister definitely has healing hands.
