#GetWrite2020: My January Writing Challenge

A new year and the start of an entire new decade is in a couple of days and, quite frankly, I'm a little freaked out. Excited, but freaked out. And rightfully so.

For starters, I'm turning 30 in four months. Which is crazy because...what? Thirty?!?! HOW, SWAY. I was literally a 20-year-old college student like, five minutes ago, with big dreams and not a single freaking clue of what my twenties had in store for me. Another post for another day lol.

Needless to say, 2020 is a pretty big deal for me. Not just because it's a new year, new decade or the fact that I'm turning 30. But because I have a major goal that I'm hellbent on accomplishing next year:

FINISHING MY BOOK.

Those of you who know me personally know I've been sitting on this book for YEARS now. My issue is I'll start writing, stop, go back, delete basically everything I wrote and start all over again. I've probably written 100 different versions of this same book over the last five or six years. I'm not even joking.

This is my first book, so I'm pretty sure the reason I've been sitting on it for so long is 95% mental and...okay, okay, it's 100% mental. You'd think that since I'm a blogger it'd be nothing for me to sit down and crank out several pages a week (and it really should be that simple), but like I said, it's mental. Basically what it boils down to is me getting out of my own way, buckling down and just getting s*** done. So, to hold myself accountable and ENSURE that I accomplish my goal next year, I've put together a writing challenge that I'm kicking off in January: the #GetWrite2020 challenge.

Here's how it works:

Each day has a goal of a certain number of words to write. For example, Days 1-4 are 50 words; Days 5-8 are 75 words; Days 9-11 are 100 words, etc (see calendar below). My challenge goal for January is to write two chapters of my book by the end of the month.

Bloggers, authors or anyone who wants to get in the habit of writing more consistently are welcome to join me! All you have to do is:

  1. Save a copy of the calendar below .

  2. Share this calendar along with your challenge goal with your friends on social media.

  3. Post your progress throughout the month using the hashtag #GetWrite2020.

  4. Follow my #GetWrite2020 story highlight on IG for updates on my writing journey!

Now, LET'S DO THIS! I'm super pumped and a little nervous (I may or may not have just farted a little lol).
